MANILA, Philippines—Alex Eala barged into the quarterfinals of W100 Vitoria-Gasteiz International Tennis Federation (ITF) after beating China’s Tianmi Mi in Spain.

The 18-year-old Filipino tennis star outlasted Mi, 6-3, 6-7, 6-0, in the Round of 16 on Thursday.

With the match knotted up at one set apiece, Eala dug deep to bounce back from a crucial second set loss.

Mi began the final frame with double break points which looked like the start of Eala’s fall. However, it would be the young Chinese’s final gasp as Eala blanked her until the end of the match, 6-0.

Up next for Eala is Spanish bet Lucia Cortez Llorca on Friday night for a spot in the semifinals.

Eala also had to withstand a three-set barnburner against Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2, in the Round of 32 also on Thursday.

The winner of the Vitoria-Gasteiz will take home over 100,000 dollars in cash prize.
