Cignal did some minor adjustments in the off-season, and with a bronze medal finish in the PVL Invitational Conference following a 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, on Sunday, the HD Spikers can certainly have something to look forward to moving forward.

“Our sacrifices paid off, having worked very hard during the break,” Roselyn Doria, a key figure in the fourth set at PhilSports Arena, said in Filipino. “We fell short in the last conference and did what we needed to here.”

The HD Spikers added the seasoned Jovelyn Gonzaga and Vanie Gandler out of Ateneo for the firepower they need to contend against the other big guns.

They got back at their first round tormentors even with another star, Kim Kianna Dy, sitting out the latter part of the tournament with a knee injury. And the duo responded, playing well with Rachel Anne Daquis and Ces Molina—with Doria steady as always—as Cignal closed out with a 7-3 record.

“Thank you Lord, because we survived this conference,” said Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos in Filipino. “Although there are minor injuries, my players were able to recover.

“This is still a bronze medal. We’re happy with this.”

Cignal finished third for the third time after Molina and Gonzaga scored 19 and 18 points, respectively, and setter Gel Cayuna directing the offense with precision.

Ivy Lacsina led the way for F2 Logistics with 16 points. Aby Maraño chipped in 10 points, while Elaine Kasilag provided the spark from the bench with nine points as Myla Pablo and Majoy Baron, the top scorers of their past win over Kinh Bac-Bac Ninh, were limited to a combined nine points.

F2, after a very promising start with three straight wins in group play, finished with a level 5-5 record. INQ
