MANILA, Philippines—Defending UAAP champion La Salle secured the first ticket in the Shakey’s Super League semifinals at San Juan Arena on Wednesday.
The Lady Archers swept Jose Maria College Foundations, 25-18, 25-14, 25-19, in the quarterfinals.
Coach Noel Orcullo’s wards only needed an hour and seven minutes to dispose of JMFC but he believes there is still room for improvement in the tourney’s next phase.
“We have a lot to fix. We didn’t play well, we had so many errors especially in service. We will dwell on our corrections and adjustments,” he said.
“In the semis, I told them we can’t play the way we did today, especially since we’re facing a UAAP team. That’s my reminder, to heighten their level of play come semis. That’s a different battle.”
Shevana Laput led the cavalry with 16 points to help La Salle gain a date with University of Santo Tomas in the knockout semis.
The Golden Tigresses will face their Final Four rival anew after defeating Enderun College in four sets, 25-13, 25-16, 21-25, 25-14, in the second game.
Regina Jurado won Player of the Game honors with 18 markers for the Golden Tigresses.
Jurado, who has already played her rookie year with UST in Season 85, said the squad will be devoted to match viewing to try and get a glimpse of the Lady Archers’ strategies.
“Game viewing will be very important for us since we already know how they play. We can share this information to our new players so they can also try and do their best when we face them,” said the sophomore in FIlipino.
The Lady Archers will square up with UST tomorrow, 2 pm, at the same venue.
