“Saturday night when we lost, coming off the court I had a tear or two. It was something I absolutely enjoyed, and had the greatest time ever playing on Tour,” said Huey in a story on ATP Tour.

“I’d love to be good enough to play this tournament one time and ended up playing it a couple times winning it once. So it was an absolute dream come true.”

Beginning his career back in 2008, Huey appeared in 18 ATP World Tours.

Huey also represented the Philippines in various international competitions, including the Davis Cup. He was responsible for bringing the country a number of medals in the Southeast Asian Games starting in 2009.

He last won the gold in the pandemic-delayed 2021 SEA Games in the men’s doubles, pairing up with Ruben Gonzales.

Mubadala Citi DC Open Tournament Director Mark Ein expressed his gratitude for Huey, who gave his spirit to the sport of tennis at the professional level.

“We’re so grateful for the example he set for young kids in our region.”
