MANiLA, Philippines—Gilas Pilipinas smoothened the gaps in its game when it mattered most to pull off a 63-48 victory over Iran in the Heyuan WUS International Basketball Tournament in Heyuan, China, on Monday night.
Kiefer Ravena helped Gilas go on a 12-0 breakaway in the final quarter, ultimately sealing a repeat over an old regional tormentor. Dwight Ramos, who has been nothing short of steady, came through again with big plays on both ends of the court at Xiaoqing Sport Center capping a scintillating performance with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Jamie Malonzo added 11 points for Gilas while Ravena finished with nine.
Gilas ended its campaign in the short tournament with a 3-1 win-loss record alongside Senegal.
But more importantly, the training squad goes back home an inspired lot—its defense and zest much more refined and evident with the Fiba World Cup just around the corner.
On tap for Gilas are friendlies against Montenegro (Aug. 20) and Mexico (Aug. 21) which are likely going to feature naturalized ace Jordan Clarkson, who is set to arrive in Manila early Tuesday morning.
