MANILA, Philippines—Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player Jordan Clarkson just arrived in the country but he wasted no time in accomplishing his first order of business.
The Utah Jazz star, who landed at NAIA Terminal 1 early Tuesday morning, immediately met with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio and chairman emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan later in the day.
In a tweet by the SBP, Clarkson was seen talking with Pangilinan and Panlilio.
In an interview with reporters upon his arrival, Clarkson believes Gilas has a “good chance” in the 2023 Fiba World Cup.
“I think we got a good chance to do some things—hopefully, we’d win some games,” said Clarkson after a 15-hour trip from Los Angeles aboard Philippine Airlines PR 103.

The 31-year-old Clarkson is expected to join Gilas in practice on Wednesday.
Gilas also arrived in the country on Tuesday following its stint in a pocket tournament in China where the squad posted a 3-1 record.
The Nationals ended their campaign with a 63-48 victory over Iran behind Dwight Ramos’ double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Gilas coach Chot Reyes expects Clarkson to be in good shape when he practices with the team.
“He’s been working out, he’s working on his skills so I think the number one thing that I can expect is that he’s in shape,” said Reyes in an episode of Power & Play last Saturday.
