MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines stamped its mark in juniors’ softball on Sunday.
Bago City ended the country’s 20-year championship drought in the 2023 Junior League Softball World Series after defeating East Region USA in the finals, 3-0, in Washington, D.C.
The last time the country won the chip in the juniors’ softball league was back in 2003 when country representative Bacolod defeated Puerto Rico with a 2-0 score.
“After countless hours of hard work and dedication, we have finally reached the pinnacle of success,” posted Little League Philippines on Facebook.
“It is a long-awaited victory that will be forever cherished by the entire country. Let’s celebrate and honor this momentous accomplishment.”
Prior to the championship-winning match, coach Rolando Fuentes’ wards went on an unblemished 4-0 card in the tournament’s pool play.
Bago City then went on to sweep both its quarterfinals and semifinals foes at 4-0 over Arizona and Texas, respectively.
