MANILA, Philippines—Filipino-American Mark Muñoz bid adieu to his title show after taking a clobbering from Chris Weidman in the second round of their middleweight bout in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on Fuel TV 4 Wednesday (Thursday morning in Manila) in the HP Pavillion in California.

Muñoz, hoping to get a crack at the legend Anderson Silva, was floored by a vicious elbow shot then  Weidman finished him off with relentless punches—prompting the referee to stop the fight in the 1:37 mark.

Muñoz, known as the “Filipino Wrecking Machine” was able to withstand Weidman’s attacks and avoid an early knockout—but committed eventually a crucial mistake keyed in his doom.

The Filipino fighter unleashed an overhand right but missed, which left him vulnerable for Weidman, who then countered with an elbow.

Weidman, still undefeated with a 9-0 record in his professional MMA career, took control of the fight from the opening round—taking Muñoz to the ground early on.

With the victory, Weidman could get a shot at the middleweight title which is in the hands of Brazilian sensation Silva, who also won earlier this week.
