MANILA, Philippines—Dave Bangguigui’s impressive win streak in ONE Championship has been snapped.

Bangguigui succumbed to Sanzhar Zakirov via technical knockout in ONE Friday Fights 28 at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday.

In the third round, Zakirov successfully put himself in a mount position over Bangguigui to land down blow after blow.

With 53 seconds left to go in the final round, the referee called for the bell when Bangguigui was unable to cover himself from Zakirov’s lefts and rights.

It wasn’t a pretty sight for Bangguigui’s camp as he was nearly dominated for the entirety of the fight. His win streak was halted at eight.

The ONE Warrior Series alum, who made his ONE Championship debut with a win in April over Brazil’s Marcus Paulo Amaral,  went crashing to a 9-2 record in the strawweight division.

Zakirov, meanwhile, etched his name in ONE, improving to a professional record of 5-0 in his debut fight for the company.

Bangguigui’s fellow Filipino, Danny Kingad, will have a chance to climb up the flyweight ladder next month when he faces China’s Hu Yong.
