MANILA, Philippines-Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology began its campaign at the 2023 Philippine Reserved Officers’ Training Corp (ROTC) Games on an auspicious note after walloping Capiz State University, 25-9, 25-10, 25-10 in women’s volleyball on Monday.

Ronamae Capuras pummeled the other side of the floor with 14 attacks in a one-hour demolition at the University of San Agustin gym in Iloilo City that gave the Cebu-based school an early lead in the tournament backed by the Philippine Sports Commission.

“We have prepared well for this and I expect us to do better in our succeeding games,” said Capuras, anticipating tougher opposition in the eight-team field versus top entries from Bacolod City and Leyte.

The Games kicked off Sunday where student-athletes from the tertiary level take centerstage.

The weeklong multi-event meet is designed to bridge the gap between the Palarong Pambansa, where elementary and high school student-athletes frolic, and the elite level of competition in the national team.

Fierce action continues on Tuesday where some of the finest college athletes in boxing, kickboxing and athletics fight for medals.
