Tisha Abundo, former PSC commissioner and volleyball trailblazer, dies at 74

MANILA, Philippines—Former Philippine Sports Commission commissioner Teresita “Tisha” Abundo has passed away at the age of 74.
The PSC paid its respects to Abundo, one of the pillars of Philippine sports, on Wednesday morning.
Born in 1949, Abundo stamped her mark in Philippine sports by blazing the trail for the women’s volleyball scene.

Abundo, a University of the East product, also became part of the Philippine national women’s volleyball team from the late 60s to the early 70s.
Her exemplary performance for the country earned her the “Most Outstanding Female National Volleyball Player” Presidential award presented by late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. in 1969.
Soon after her professional career, Abundo did her part in pioneering the country’s sports scene by taking the helm as PSC Commissioner from 1998 to 2001.
