MANILA, Philippines—The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said Tuesday it will provide “full force” support to help secure roads and manage traffic during the Fiba World Cup 2023 in the Philippines.

LTO Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said the focus of the deployment will be on the roads leading to and from the three main venues of the event: the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, the Mall of Asia in Pasay City, and the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

“Together with your LTO, we ensure a smooth and safe flow of traffic on the roads leading to the venues of this international event that our fellow countrymen are eagerly anticipating,” said Mendoza.

The Philippines is known for its passion for basketball and he said that a significant turnout is expected at the Fiba World Cup venues.

Mendoza added that the LTO is committed to ensuring the country’s successful hosting of the event.

LTO Law Enforcement Service Director Francis Almora said all available resources, including patrol vehicles, motorcycle patrols, and 41 law enforcers, will be tapped for the deployment.

“We have committed all our vehicles and personnel and they will be always on standby 24 hours until the conclusion of this event,” said Almora.

The Fiba World Cup will be held from August 25 to September 10 in Manila.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. has suspended all classes and work in Metro Manila and in Bulacan on August 25 for the opening of the event.
