No untoward incident during 2023 Fiba World Cup opening — PNP

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday said that there were no untoward incidents during the opening of the 2023 Fiba World Cup on Friday in Bulacan.

“The Philippine National Police (PNP) successfully orchestrated a seamless opening ceremony for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, held on August 25, 2023, at the majestic Ciudad De Victoria, Philippine Arena, Bocaue, Bulacan,” a report released by PNP Public Information Office chief Brigadier General Redrico Maranan on Sunday said.

Maranan said that the PNP deployed 414 officers in and around the sprawling venue to control and secure the record setting crowd of more than 38,000.

The PNP also added that it will still maintain its safety measures throughout the 17-day event.

“As the tournament progresses, the PNP remains committed to upholding security measures that will enable basketball enthusiasts to enjoy world-class competition while prioritizing the safety of all attendees,” the PNP added.
