UCI head lauds PhilCycling

THE UNION Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the world governing body for cycling, has extended its warm congratulations to the new board of the sports’ national federation, the PhilCycling, which installed Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino to a fresh four-year term as president.

“I would like to convey my heartfelt congratulations as well as those of the UCI staff on your reelection, and wish you every success in the task that you have taken on. I hope that you will have profitable and close collaboration with each of your members,” UCI president Pat McQuaid said in a letter to Tolentino on July 13.

The PhilCycling conducted a “unified” elections last July 3 at the One Promenade in Parañaque City. Tolentino’s predecessor, Air21 chair Bert Lina, was installed as chair of the board, while former Philippine Sports Commission chief Philip Ella Juico was elected vice president.

McQuaid, who was responsible for making the Marlboro Tour a UCI Race from 1996 to 1998, hinted about his desire to visit the country again.
