There was a lot of fuss about Casiey Dongallo reinforcing University of the East (UE) in the UAAP.
A win by the Lady Warriors on Sunday seemed to validate the hype.
UE made short work of Jose Rizal University, 25-14, 25-21, 25-19, in the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-Season Championship Season 2, with Dongallo chipping in 20 points—all on attacks—as the Lady Warriors opened their UAAP preparations on the wings of hope.
“I can bring the power I have from high school but what I need to do is play smarter,” Dongallo said before the tournament started.
She did just that, pouring all her points in the last two sets after sitting out the opener.
“First, I love the fact there’s an all-to-play rule to give opportunity to all players. We’re still trying to work on two separate lineups for the first six on both sets. So far, I’m happy that both the lineups executed well,” said assistant coach Obet Vital.
Dongallo, recruited from California Academy, was the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League Most Valuable Player last summer.
Without Dongallo on the bench in the first set, KC Cepeda, who finished with five points, carried UE to a 19-9 lead to set the tone for the sweep. INQ
