MANILA, Philippines—The NCAA will feature more returning events for its 99th Season, which officially begins on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

“New Heroes of the Game” is the theme for NCAA Season 99.

“We know the student-athletes have been excited to get back to full competition so we do expect a much higher level of competition and excellence,” said Dr. Vincent K. Fabella, Season 99 policy board president of host Jose Rizal University.

“We’re following the Fiba World Cup so that level of excitement is there so we hope you enjoy the 99th season.”

Badminton and table tennis will return to the spotlight after being scrapped from the list of NCAA events during the pandemic.

The oldest collegiate league in the country will also hold new events in Kiddie and 3×3 Basketball.

Managing committee chairman Paul Supan, also from JRU, also said this season will be special after a stellar end to Season 98.

“This is going to be special. A lot of sporting events will return to the calendar of the NCAA.”

“We’re bringing back most of the events prior to the pandemic and we’re not closing our doors. We’re still studying, not just for this season but also for the next seasons.”

Kickstarting the league’s penultimate season before the centennial installation is the men’s basketball doubleheader featuring defending champion Letran and JRU followed by losing finalist College of St. Benilde and Final Four squad Lyceum on Sunday.
