Gilas Pilipinas faces a familiar competitor in the men’s basketball 5×5 semifinals of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
The Filipinos’ bid for a podium finish in this year’s continental meet goes through host China in the knockout semis on Wednesday, October 4.
The Tim Cone-led squad has to escape Iran in the quarterfinals to arrange the showdown with the Chinese, which the team also faced in the recently concluded Fiba World Cup in Manila.
The Philippines finished No. 2 in preliminaries after losing to the Rondae Hollis-Jefferson-lead Jordan in the preliminaries on Saturday. It hurdled Qatar in the qualification to quarterfinal to get to the playoffs.
