Only 32 sports in 2013 SEAG

THERE will be no repeat of the overloaded list of sports and events in Indonesia when Myanmar hosts the Southeast Asian Games next year.

Philippine Olympic Committee secretary-general Steve Hontiveros yesterday said the SEAG Federation Council has discouraged the host country from adding more than one sport of its choice in the roster of events for the 2013 edition of the biennial meet.

Hontiveros added that the council also agreed to stage only a maximum of 32 sports in Myanmar compared to the Indonesia’s 44 disciplines that included a number of indigenous sports.

According to Hontiveros, there are already 31 sports approved by the council, 21 of them Olympic disciplines while the rest are continental sports.

“It will prevent the host country from really dominating the games,” said Hontiveros.
