Archers Mark Javier and Rachel Anne Cabral will kick off the country’s medal hunt in the London Olympics when they plunge into action right in the opener of the world’s biggest gathering in sports.
Javier is scheduled to launch his first set of arrows in the competition round of the men’s recurve on July 27, almost simultaneous with the opening rites of the 30th Summer Games.
On the same day, Cabral will also begin her bid in the 70-meter, 72-arrow women’s recurve for seeding.
Both archers completed their training against club teams in the cities of Seoul and Incheon in South Korea.
Should they survive the preliminaries and advance to the medal round, the big day for Cabral will be on Aug. 2 while Javier aims for glory the next day.
Swimmer Jessie Khing Lacuna takes centerstage on July 29 in the men’s 200-meter freestyle while skeet shooter Brian Rosario and weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz get going on the 30th.
The following day, boxer Mark Barriga climbs the ring in the men’s light flyweight category.
Swimmer Jasmine Alkhaldi plunges into action on Aug. 1 in the qualifying heat of the women’s 100m freestyle while judoka Tomohiko Hoshina (men’s +100 kg) enters the mat two days later.
Marestella Torres competes in long jump on Aug. 7 followed by Rene Herrera (5,000-meter run) and BMX rider Daniel Caluag on Aug. 8.
