MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday congratulated Gilas Pilipinas for bringing home gold from the Asian Games.

Gilas Pilipinas won the match against Jordan, ending a more than half a century drought for the Philippines.

“I know every Filipino is proud to be called one today. Congratulations, Gilas Pilipinas, on this incredible feat!” Marcos said in a Twitter post.

“Your hard work continues to elevate Filipino athleticism and sportsmanship to the global arena.”

Marcos also congratulated Annie Ramirez for winning gold in jiu-jitsu.

“Congratulations to Ms. Annie Ramirez for securing the Philippines’ 3rd gold with an impressive victory in the -57kg women’s Jiu-jitsu at the 19th Asian Games. Your dedication and triumph exemplify the Filipino spirit of excellence,” said Marcos in a separate post.
