MANILA, Philippines—Carlos Yulo couldn’t finish on the podium in the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium on Saturday night (Manila time).
Yulo reached the final of the floor exercise–where he was once a world champion–but came up short of the bronze medal, finishing fourth.
The 23-year-old gymnast tallied 14.500 points in the last phase just behind Kazakhstan’s Milad Karini, who finished with 14.600 points for the bronze.
Artem Dolgopyat of Israel finished with the gold medal after finishing with 14.866 while Kazuki Minami brought Japan a silver after 14.666 markers.
Despite the flat finish, Yulo will still head to the 2024 Paris Olympics in his pet event after becoming the highest-ranked eligible participant in the floor exercise on the tilt’s opening day.
Yulo stepped up after having an abysmal start to the tournament in the men’s all-around qualification, specifically in the still rings after falling on his back for just 11.57 points.
