MANILA, Philippines — Grace Gella and Krizziah Macatula earned a bronze medal in the women’s doubles of the 2023 International Bowling Federation (IBF) World Bowling Championships in Salmiya, Kuwait.

The Philippine women’s bowling team got swept by Singapore’s Colleen Pee and New Hui Fen in two games during the semifinal but it is bringing home a bronze medal from its world tilt.

Gella and Macatula lost the first game to a score of 149-236 before Pee and Fen completed the sweep in the second match, 182-250, to forge an all-Singaporean championship game.

The other Singapore team, Daphne and Cherie Tan, ruled the women’s doubles, after sweeping their compatriots in two games, 226-199 and 218-192.

Gella and Macatula had a great run after winning all their five Bakers’ format matches with lines of 230, 229, 234, 274, and 188 for a total of 1155 pinfalls and an average of 231.00 in Group C of the first round.

The Filipino pair topped Group 3 in the second round with lines of 225, 221, 184, 200, and 247 for a total of 1077 pinfalls and an average of 215.40 to advance to the semifinals and eliminate teams from Singapore, China, Denmark, Canada, and Colombia.
