MANILA, Philippines — Robert Bolick has parted ways with the Fukushima Firebonds amid the ongoing Japan B.League Division 2 season.

Fukushima on Thursday announced that it is releasing the Filipino guard, saying it granted Bolick’s wish to leave the club due to personal reasons.

“We would like to announce the termination of the contract of Robert Bolick. Bolick was the first player announced as the first contract in this season’s lineup, and the club had high expectations for him,” the team wrote.

“However, Bolick recently expressed his intention to leave the club, and the club held many discussions, but Bolick was firm in his intentions, and in the end, we decided to respect his wishes.”

Reports said the reason for Bolick’s departure from the Japanese club was due to the pregnancy of his wife Cassandra.

The Firebonds apologized to the fans after their hard decision to cancel Bolick’s contract. They will release an update once they find a replacement Asian import.

“The contract was not such that it would be easy to terminate the contract or transfer midway through the season. This happened just after the season had begun, and something that the club had not originally anticipated,” read the statement.

“Plans for future team reinforcement are underway, and we will report on them as soon as they are decided. Thank you for your continued support of Fukushima Fire Bonds.”

Bolick only played one game for the Firebonds with 10 points, five rebounds, and two assists against Yamagata last October 7.

The ex-Northport player signed with Fukushima last May after his contract expired last season in the PBA.
