PVL: Eager to rebound, Sisi Rondina helps deliver Choco Mucho’s first win

MANILA, Philippines — Sisi Rondina made sure to bounce back from their tough loss to sister team Creamline as she poured in 21 points to carry Choco Mucho to the win column of the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.

Rondina dropped 17 attacks, three blocks, and an ace as Choco Mucho swept Farm Fresh, 25-18, 25-13, 25-17, on Thursday at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

The former UAAP Most Valuable Player out of the University of Santo Tomas admitted her frustration with her past performance in their four-set defeat to the undermanned Creamline in front of 14,000 fans at the Big Dome on Sunday.

“Personally, I admitted to coach Dante [Alinsunurin] that I was stressed because off my off-game last match. That’s why I added more loads to all the skills this week, especially in reception because they were targeting me,” said Rondina in Filipino after having six excellent receptions.

“Earlier, I had a mindset to give my team a good reception.”

Des Cheng also stepped up with 10 points, seven digs, and five receptions. Deanna Wong had 11 excellent sets, as Caitlin Viray and Maddie Madayag added nine markers each. Kat Tolentino also contributed in the third set, scoring all of her four points.

“Our team showed its eagerness to win the game. We performed coach Dante’s system,” Rondina said. “What’s important for coach Dante is everyone should perform even our bench players. Our ultimate goal is to deliver whenever we check inside the court so it won’t be hard for the whole team and it will give us a confidence boost.”

Rondina and the Flying Titans kept the Foxies winless in two games amid Trisha Tubu’s 14 points.

Choco Mucho, which improved to 1-1, battles Cignal on Thursday at Ynares Center Antipolo.

“We’re going back to the drawing board. We need to continue working for us to perform well. Whatever happens, we will continue learning and working,” Rondina said.
