Pucay ends up tied for 14th

SAMUI, Thailand—Mars Pucay collapsed on the same stretch where he sizzled in the third round and settled for a 3-over-par 74 that dropped him out of the top 10 at the end of the Queen’s Cup won by local favorite Chawalit Plaphol on Sunday.

After hitting the turn at 1-under, Pucay dropped five strokes in a five-hole stretch from No. 10 and he needed a birdie on the 18th to salvage a tie for 14th place with a 284 total.

Pucay, who started the day tied for ninth after a 67 where he shot a 32 on the final nine, picked up $4,410 (about P189,000). He shot 70-73 in the first two rounds.

Antonio Lascuña closed with a par 71 after rounds of 72-75-76 to wind up in a tie for 47th place at 294. He won $1,470 (about P63,000).

Pucay nullified an opening-hole bogey with back-to-back birdies from the fourth and stayed one under until he bogeyed the 10th hole.

Shaken, Pucay double bogeyed the 11th, dropped a stroke each on the 12th and 14th before he recovered somewhat with his birdie on the 18th.

Plaphol produced a  3-under-par 68 to beat countryman Prayad Marksaeng, who closed with a bogey-free 67, by two shots.
