PVL: Savannah Davison fuels PLDT’s second straight win

ANTIPOLO — Savannah Davison sustained her fine form as PLDT blanked winless Farm Fresh, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20, for its second straight win in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at Ynares Center.
Davison poured 18 points built on 13 kills, three aces, and two blocks as the High Speed Hitters improved to a 2-1 record at solo fourth place after beating the Foxies in just 70 minutes.
Although this is the Filipino-Canadian spiker’s first PVL stint, veteran setter Rhea Dimaculangan said the High Speed Hitters didn’t have a hard time adjusting with Davison.
“Savie is a kind of teammate who is easy to get along with. She is so nice and we both find ways to make [the necessary] adjustments so we can connect well,” said Dimaculangan in Filipino after dishing out 10 excellent sets.
“Our team also improved our lapses from the first game and I think Savie is slowly getting the system of coach and the team.”
The 24-year-old Davison, who also had eight excellent receptions and seven digs, shared that she always makes sure to communicate with Dimaculangan to work on their connection.
“She’s my go-to at practice and during the games. I make sure I come up to her every day and just talk to her a little bit,” she said of Dimaculangan. “She’s just overall a great person and that makes it so much easier to have her as a teammate and it just makes it so much easier to have her on my side.”
UNTAPPED POTENTIAL

After emerging as PLDT’s leading scorer with a total of 54 points in her first three games, Davison couldn’t tell if she already unlocked her full potential in the PVL when she was asked to rank her performance from one to 10.
“That’s kind of difficult because I think the potential I have here along with the coaching and the teammates is kind of untapped. I’m not sure what my 10 would be, what my 10 would kind of look like with them,” Davison said. “I’ve told people day after day, I’m just trying to be better than before, the day before. I think through that, I couldn’t give any easy answer, but I just hope it’s under 10.”
Davison had solid help from her teammates. Royse Tubino had 12 points including two of the team’s seven blocks, middle blockers Dell Palomata and Mika Reyes chipped in eight and seven markers, respectively, while libero Kath Arado had 12 digs.
“I couldn’t have done it without them. Working together with the team just makes it so much easier for me and I’m just glad that I have them behind me on the court supporting me, and I’m just glad that everything worked together so easily,” she said.
PLDT will have more than a week before its next match against Nxled (1-1) on November 2 in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Kate Santiago led the Foxies with 11 points, while Trisha Tubu, who celebrated her 23rd birthday, had 10 points as they absorbed their third straight loss this conference.
Farm Fresh, who has yet to win in seven games since joining in the Invitational Conference, hopes to end its losing streak against the Akari Chargers on Thursday in Antipolo.
