MANILA, Philippines—College of St. Benilde stood its ground and snapped Mapua’s winning streak, 65-61, in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament at San Juan Arena on Wednesday.

The Cardinals’ streak ended at six to put their record at 8-2 but they still lead the league ahead of second seed San Beda (7-2).

The Blazers, meanwhile, improved to 6-4 as Miggy Corteza led the way with a near double-double of 17 points and nine rebounds.

Clint Escamis scored a game-high 19 markers to go along with five boards and three assists but to no avail. Jopet Soriano and Paolo Hernandez also finished with 14 and 10 points, respectively, in a losing effort.

Perpetual Help, meanwhile, fended off defending champion Letran, 73-61, to improve to 4-6.

Marcus Nitura led the fight with 17 points while Art Roque recorded a double-double of 16 markers and 12 boards en route to the victory.

The Knights, on the other hand, dropped to an abysmal 1-9 record. Pao Javillonar registered 14 points and eight rebounds while Deo Cuajao and Jay Garupil scored 11 and 10, respectively, in the defeat.
