PVL: Choco Mucho finally wins over Cignal as Sisi Rondina topscores
MANILA, Philippines–Sisi Rondina powered Choco Mucho to sweep Cignal, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18, for back-to-back wins in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference at Ynares Center in Antipolo City on Thursday.
Despite losing Des Cheng early in the second set due to a bad landing, the Flying Titans carved out a statement win over the HD Spikers, who had a five-game winning streak against Choco Mucho since April last year.
Article continues after this advertisement“The win is a big deal for us because that’s what we’ve been waiting for from the first and second conference. We got a win in the third conference. I hope our momentum continues because that’s what we need to [lift] their confidence in the game,” coach Dante Alinsunurin said shortly after their triumph.
Rondina contributed 18 points on 16 attacks and two aces, Kat Tolentino 14 points built on 11 kills, Maddie Madayag 12 points and three blocks while Isa Molde 11 points.
Libero Thang Ponce had a defensive master class that hailed her the player of the game with 17 excellent digs and three excellent receptions to help Choco Mucho improve to a 2-1 (win-loss) standing with only an opening game defeat to Creamline.
Article continues after this advertisementCignal’s Roselyn Doria and Ces Molina had 11 points each in the loss that demoted the HD Spikers to 1-2.
“I am just so happy because we finally got back to Cignal,” Ponce said.
“Their performance today was really good. Everything that we worked for in practice we saw in the game,” Alinsunurin added.
Deanna Wong was successful in maximizing the Flying Titans’ offensive power with 16 excellent sets.
