LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England—Reigning Asian Tour champion Juvic Pagunsan dropped three strokes in his first seven holes and finished with a 2-over-par 72 that left him one shot over the projected cutoff mark after the second round of the British Open championship Friday.
The sweet-swinging Filipino, who earned his place in the year’s third Major after winning the Order of Merit last season, wound up with six bogeys for the day against four birdies and posted a 36-hole total of 3-over 143 at the par-70 Royal Lytham and St Annes course.
The halfway cut was initially pegged at 2-over with 80 percent of the field still to tee off in pursuit of the lead held by Adam Scott, who got going with a 64 Thursday.
Pagunsan, who carded a 71 in the first round, bogeyed the first, third and seventh holes to go four over for the tournament. He rallied with two birdies on the eighth and ninth and managed to stay two over after the 17th before he bogeyed the 18th for the second straight day. Asian Tour News
