MANILA, Philippines–PLDT obliterated Gerflor 25-8, 25-9, 25-17, cruising to its fourth consecutive win in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at PhilSports Arena on Saturday.

Jules Samonte collected 10 points on seven attacks and three aces while Rachel Austero also had 10 including three blocks.

“We kept the lesson we learned from our last game against Nxled where we had a slow start,” said PLDT coach Rald Ricafort, whose squad hiked its record to 4-1. “At least we got back today. We had good service so it made our counter-attacking easier.”

The High Speed Hitters, who are coming off a win over Nxled on Thursday, had a 13-5 attack advantage in the second set alone while also tallying six aces.

PLDT was hardly tested, especially in the first two sets with Gerflor simply struggling to match its opponent’s firepower.

The High Speed Hitters, who had a total of 14 aces and a 7-0 advantage on blocks, stretched the Defenders’ skid to 10 dating back to last conference.

“Regardless of who we’ll be playing, whether it’s a top team or a newer one, we have to control the game so we can manage the starters’ minutes,” Ricafort said as PLDT had 14 aces and a 7-0 advantage on blocks.

PLDT used a 6-0 run in the final frame before Gerflor committed a service error to ultimately give the match to the High Speed Hitters.

Gerflor, who had 15 fewer attacks than its foe, collapsed to 0-5 this conference.

PLDT is tipped to extend its streak to five against newcomer and winless Galeries Tower on November 9 at PhilSports Arena.
