UNIVERSITY of the East-1’s Francislyn Cais and Jessica Paron held off last year’s third-leg winner Satchel Senupe and Anna Adolfo, 21-10, in the third leg of the 2012 Petron Ladies’ Beach Volleyball Tournament at the UE-Caloocan sand courts yesterday.
With the win, Cais and Paron topped Group B and barged into the semifinals with a 4-win, 1-loss record, the same slate of La Salle-Dasmariñas bets MoniqueTiangco and Maribeth Lara, who claimed the second berth in their bracket.
Unheralded San Sebastian spikers Gretchel Soltones and Czarina Berbano swept their five games and bagged the first semifinal slot in Group A of the tournament supported by Mikasa and Speedo.
Adamson duo Paulina Soriano and Sheila Mae Pineda, who finished with three wins and two losses, clinched the second semifinal berth due to a better tiebreak quotient over AMA Computer College standouts Lorie Lyn Longalong and Sheila Mae Fajardo.
The Lady Falcons barely made it into the semifinals after they took a 19-21 setback to SSC’s Soltones and Berbano during their last elimination-round game.
