MANILA, Philippines–Calvin Abueva could be back for Magnolia sooner than expected.
Projected to be out for a month, the electric forward shared that his recovery from a hemorrhoid procedure is going rather swiftly.
“Lots of good signs. Hopefully, the waiting time becomes shorter,” Abueva told reporters following the Hotshots’ 110-102 win over TNT in the PBA’s opening night last Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Abueva, visibly in good spirits, said he tried to dunk during practice and felt no adverse reactions “around the area where surgery was done.”
“What I’m working on now is to get my wind back,” he said. “I need to keep up with the guys. The game has been the running kind, we can no longer call for timeouts ourselves to get a bit of a rest.”
“I’m joining some of the team’s drills in practice. But I’m not yet a hundred percent. This coming week, I’m looking to start lifting weights again.”
Magnolia will have three more opponents lined up this November: Phoenix this Sunday, NorthPort on Nov. 17, and defending champion Barangay Ginebra on Nov. 19.
