NU’s Alyssa Solomon named Super League MVP anew
MANILA, Philippines — Alyssa Solomon was crowned Most Valuable Player of the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Pre-Season Championship for the second straight time after leading National University to another perfect championship run.
The 21-year-old Solomon earned the SSL MVP as NU completed a championship series sweep of University of Santo Tomas on Saturday at Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Lady Bulldogs finished the second season with a perfect 10-0 record, winning 18 straight games in the league since the inaugural staging last year after sweeping the Tigresses in the Finals series, 25-17, 15-25, 25-20, 25-20, where Solomon scored 14 points off 10 kills, three aces, and a block.
“Actually, I was surprised when I heard my name again as MVP because I didn’t expect it. I’m not satisfied with my performance. But I’m happy because we got the championship, which means this is the start of the UAAP,” Solomon told reporters in Filipino.
Solomon, who scored 15 points in Game 1, also earned the Best Opposite Spiker for the second consecutive time, as three other Lady Bulldogs received individual awards.

Erin Pangilinan was named as the 1st Best Middle Blocker, joined by 2nd Best Middle Blocker Lorene Toring of Adamson.
Tigresses’ captain Detdet Pepito won her second straight Best Libero award in the SSL in their runner-up finish.
