Pasig River run goes to QC

EXPECT another record-breaking event when Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) stages its fourth advocacy run via “09.30.2012 Run for the Pasig River” on Sept. 30 in Quezon City.

The three event categories are 15K Ride & Roll at 4 a.m., 15K Commonwealth Challenge at 4:10 a.m. and 5K Morning Madness at 6 a.m. The starting line is at the Quezon City Memorial Circle. From there, the runners go straight to Commonwealth Ave., then back to QCMC for the finish.

An estimated 23,000 participants helped fund the initial phase of rehabilitation of Estero de Paco, a 2.9-kilometer tributary of the Pasig River in Manila in 2009; 116,087 ran in 2010 for the Estero de Paco second phase clean-up; and some 86,000 joined last year’s call to help restore Estero de San Miguel and four other esteros (swamp) behind Malacañang Palace to their former glory.

Registration started on July 16 at SM North Edsa and on Friday at SM Megamall and SM Mall of Asia. For updates and other inquiries, visit runforthepasigriver.com. Romina S. Austria
