ANTIPOLO—Mikey Williams continues to ignore all attempts to talk with mother team TNT and is now in danger of being blacklisted in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), which would carry a lot of repercussions.
“His rights remain with TNT if he ever chooses to come back,” league chief Willie Marcial said, as it was reported that the telecommunications company has threatened to terminate Williams’ contract.
“Even if he wanted out of the team, or if other clubs wanted to pick him up, TNT will have the final say on that.”
The only time that could change, according to Marcial, is if “the PBA leadership changes the rules or if I’m no longer the commissioner.”
And if Williams decides to take his act overseas, which one other renegade TNT son, Bobby Parks Jr. did before, the two-time Finals Most Valuable Player will have to ask for a clearance from his former team and the PBA, which will not happen under the circumstances.
Ricky Vargas, the TNT rep who chairs the league’s board, has openly shown disgust at how things have turned out with Williams.
“He’s breaking his contract by not coming [here] and we’re not going to allow that,” Vargas said.
There have been reports that Williams is asking for more than five times the maximum allowed in the individual salary cap.
