MANILA, Philippines — University of the East coach Jack Santiago felt the suspension of Precious Momowei was unfair as it also disqualified the top rookie from winning any individual award in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament.

Santiago shared the Red Warriors appealed Momowei’s suspension right away but was turned down by the league even after UE president Dr. Zosimo M. Battad called for an emergency meeting on Wednesday morning prior to his resignation as the UAAP Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Season 86.

MANILA, Philippines — Rookie Chicco Briones was a revelation for University of the Philippines, leading the Fighting Maroons’ big bench production in an 86-61 win over University of Santo Tomas on Wednesday.

Briones tallied a team-high 14 points for UP, which assured itself of at least a playoff for a twice-to-beat advantage in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball Final Four.

“It was an opportunity to give my best and I had to take that you know, give my best and put my heart out on the court. And of course, the trust is always there and I just had to give my best and I don’t like I have to show out and to lose that trust from coach,” said Briones.

MANILA, Philippines—III-I-XIV.

At first glance, this dateline seemed just another piece in Ateneo player Jared Brown’s growing arm sleeve tattoo.

But, as many other ink pieces do, that holds a deep meaning in Brown’s life. It’s also the same piece that fueled the shifty guard in the Blue Eagles’ 80-74 victory over University of the East in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday.

Call this the relative calm before the storm.

With three playdates left in the elimination round of the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament, only one Final Four slot is left to be filled—and that can happen after Wednesday’s heavy four-game schedule. But the real fight for twice-to-beat slots will happen on the weekend.

And those semifinal bonuses surely look to be precious possessions the way things have shaped up.
