MANILA, Philippines — Cignal stole Game 1 of the semifinals as it snapped Choco Mucho’s 10-game win streak with a come-from-behind 18-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-19, 15-10 victory in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) second All-Filipino Conference on Thursday.

MANILA, Philippines — Creamline turned to the troika of Jema Galanza, Tots Carlos, and Alyssa Valdez to sweep the Eya Laure-led Chery Tiggo, 25-18, 27-25, 25-22, and take Game 1 of the best-of-three semifinals series in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) second All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at Philsports Arena.

The Cool Smashers, who tried different rotations and combinations when they swept the 11-game elimination round, brought out their hard-hitting trio as Galanza led the charge with 17 points, nine excellent receptions, and seven digs.

No team has been able to touch Creamline with a 10-foot pole so far in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, and the Cool Smashers have shown no signs of slowing down.

After sweeping their 11-game elimination round schedule, the Cool Smashers are still looking to become better as the stakes get higher.

On Thursday, Creamline tries to put the sweep behind and focus on a new goal of bundling out Chery Tiggo at the start of their best-of-three semifinal series as the Cool Smashers look to win this conference for the second time this year, but without two players that formed the core of possibly the most fearsome team this league has seen.

Creamline looks sharp for its title defense in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference and the Cool Smashers will take a perfect slate into the semifinals after hiking their winning streak to 11 games. For coach Sherwin Meneses, the team can even be sharper.

“[The 11-game win streak] is a big deal since it boosted the players’ morale,” Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses told the Inquirer in Filipino. “But I always tell [the Cool Smashers] that this is the time that we need to perform even better.”

“[O]f course our goal is much higher than an elimination [round] sweep.”
