MANILA, Philippines—After Kai Ballungay’s exit for Ateneo, Chris Koon assured that he wouldn’t go down the same route for now.
Koon revealed in an Instagram post that he will not yet leave the Blue Eagles and vowed to give the squad a better result in UAAP Season 87.
“I am truly blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people here at Ateneo. With that, there is still much work to be done. I’m excited to say that I will be coming back for next season,” wrote Koon.
“The road to recovery and preparation starts now and I can’t wait to go through this journey together with all of you.”
The Filipino-American swingman didn’t have the best season under coach Tab Baldwin this season but he still contributed.
Koon posted norms of 9.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game but had shooting clips of 27 percent from deep and 32 percent from the field as a whole.
Koon, who will be playing his swan song for the Blue Eagles next season, admitted that he and the squad from Loyola Heights did “not achieve the outcome they desired” but he showed love to the community, nonetheless.
“We didn’t achieve the outcome we desired but I’m glad to have gone through it with our amazing coaches, management, fans, and of course my teammates.”
After winning it all in Season 85, the Blue Eagles failed to regain the crown in Season 86 following a Final Four exit at the hands of University of the Philippines.
The Blue Eagles finished with a season record of 7-7.
Joining Koon in his final run with Ateneo are Mason Amos and shifty guard Jared Brown.
