MANILA, Philippines – Alex Eala started the new year with a career-best ranking of No.185 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

Eala on the first day of 2024 surpassed her previous career-high of World No. 189 October last year.

“Starting the year with a new career high!” Eala posted on her Instagram Stories.

It was her first time to enter the top 200 mark last year when she won two International Tennis Federation (ITF) titles, two bronze medals in the Asian Games, and made her debut in the Australian Open as a pro.

The 18-year-old Filipino competes anew in the Australian Open on January 8 as a qualifier. She is eyeing to compete in all Grand Slams this year.

Eala ended the year 2023 with an early exit in the Workday Canberra International.

The Rafael Nadal Academy graduate fell to Celine Naef of Switzerland, 4-6, 5-7, in the first round of qualifiers on Sunday in Australia.
