PVL: Ara Galang moves to Chery Tiggo Crossovers
MANILA, Philippines — Ara Galang has found her new home with the Chery Tiggo Crossovers ahead of the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season.
The Crossovers on Tuesday morning announced their signing of the do-it-all veteran spiker Galang.
Article continues after this advertisementThe 28-year-old Galang is coming out of her comfort zone after playing in the same system under coach Ramil De Jesus in college with the De La Salle Lady Spikers from 2011 to 2016 and the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers in the club volleyball scene from 2016 to 2023.
“I’m very thankful kasi may opportunity na ganito na maglaro sa Chery, and super excited din kasi unang-una, first time ko lang din may makasamang iba talaga, so pumunta ako sa team na wala gaanong kakilala. ‘Yung kilala ko lang, si Buding (Duremdes) tsaka si ate Mylene Paat,” said Galang. “Excited akong makatrabaho at makalaro ‘yung mga bata.”
The former UAAP Most Valuable Player had to find a new team after F2 Logistics decided to disband its PVL team to focus on grassroots.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Angeles City, Pampanga native will be playing under a new system and environment with coaches Aaron Velez and KungFu Reyes.
She will also bolster the deep wing spiker-rotation of the Crossovers, joining Eya and EJ Laure, Mylene Paat, Cess Robles, Shaya Adorador, and France Ronquillo.
Galang is out to contribute her offensive prowess, steady floor defense, and experience to Chery Tiggo, which has yet to reach the PVL finals since ruling the maiden pro season in the 2021 bubble in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
Chery Tiggo, led by Best Outside Spiker Eya Laure, reached the semifinals last All-Filipino Conference but got swept by Creamline in the semifinals series and lost the bronze to Cignal.
Galang was the third Cargo Mover to sign to a new team after Dawn Macandili-Catindig took her act to Cignal and Ivy Lacsina joined Nxled.
