MANILA, Philippines—The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has a new Executive Director in Erika Dy.

The announcement was made by the federation on Monday, following Dy’s exemplary performance in the 2023 Fiba World Cup where she served as deputy event director.

SBP President Al Panlilio said Dy’s assignment as Executive Director for the federation can “broaden the imprint of the SBP.”

“We’re very excited to work with Erika as she brings new energy into the federation,” said Panlilio.

“With her experience as a basketball player, a coach, a sports advocate, and one of the primary implementers of the World Cup, we know she is capable of broadening the imprint of the SBP.”

Dy had a handful of basketball involvements before her Fiba stint last year.

The Columbia University degree holder was UAAP Licensing Committee Chair and also a former Ateneo Assistant Athletic Director and coach of the Women’s Basketball Team.

The Fiba Legal Commission Chairwoman also expressed her excitement to be on board as the SBP’s Executive Director.

“Basketball has been a huge part of my life and I’m thankful to be given the opportunity to give back to the sport and the basketball community,” said Dy.

“The SBP has done so much since its founding led by Chairman Emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan and it is exciting to join the federation at such a pivotal time,” she added.
