MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel was witness to Bennie Boatwright’s exceptional back-to-back games.
Against Terrafirma on Sunday, the Beermen’s import scored 51 and 12 rebounds in the win. Then on Friday, Boatwright exploded once more for 44 points and 12 rebounds to fuel San Miguel to a 125-117 triumph over Blackwater in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
In both games, the 27-year-old was wearing kicks that were worthy to “witness;” the Nike LeBron 20’s in the ‘Black Gold’ colorway.
When asked if the change of on-court shoes put him at ease to perform the way he did, Boatwright pondered and ultimately concluded that he’s been “feeling good in them.”
“You know what? I have been feeling good in them. I just got these shoes. Last game, I felt good in them, this game I felt good in them, so I guess so… I’m still breaking them in so I’m still pulling stuff out of the bag with them on,” said the athletic forward.
“These are my first pair of LeBron’s, the 20s, and I’m really liking them so I went online and tried to find like, five more pairs. I was looking now. Right after the (last) game), when I felt good in them, I looked on eBay to try and find a couple more pairs.”
There’s something about the Black and Metallic Gold pair of sneakers that got Boatwright to dominate as soon as he wore it.

One could even say that the 6’8 swingman played like “The King” himself with his red-hot shooting exhibition against the Bossing. Boatwright’s 44 was built on 57 percent shooting (16-for-28) from the field with eight buckets made from beyond the arc.
For comparison, LeBron is currently averaging a 52.1 percent field goal shooting clip for the Lakers. Is it a coincidence or is it the shoes? One could put it up for debate.
Boatwright, though, kept it real and said if he wasn’t rocking the 20s, he has a long list of choices to choose from.
“I like the Paul George’s. the PG6, in particular. Those shoes feel really comfortable. Back when I was younger, I used to wear everything; Jordans, every type of Nike’s, old school KD’s (Kevin Durant) but as I got older, I looked for more comfort.”
The Los Angeles native is also keeping his sneaker game on lock, even off the court.
“I’ve been wearing the 4s lately, the Cool Grey 4s, I think. I like to wear Jorda’s, I like the 4s a lot. Sometimes, I wear Vans or Crocs every now and then but I keep it simple.”
