Ariana Tiu seized two gold medals in the recent Southeast Asian Fencing Federation (SEAFF) Championship held recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Grade 11 student of Immaculate Concepcion Academy took home the gold in the cadet women’s individual sabre before teaming up with Kaikaku Dela Serna and Meagan Co Say to rule the team event. Tiu won four of her six poule matches and kicked off her direct eliminations stint with a 15-8 victory over Chattay Napasorn of Thailand. She proceeded to beat compatriot Maiev Boy in the quarterfinals, 15-11, before ousting Sum Suhui of Malaysia, 15-13 in the semifinals. Tiu turned back another hometown bet, Natalie Wong, 15-10, in the finals to secure the gold. In the team event, the Philippines squeaked past Malaysia’s A-team, 45-44, to notch the gold.
