Roger Gorayeb returns to PVL as coach of new team Capital1

MANILA, Philippines — Roger Gorayeb is making his Premier Volleyball League (PVL) comeback after a three-year absence as he builds the foundation of the newest team, Capital1 Solar Energy.

After reports came out that sportsman and PBA team Northport owner Mikee Romero will enter the volleyball scene, multiple sources confirmed to INQUIRER.net that the 12th slot left by the disbanded F2 Logistics has been given to Capital1 to form a professional team.

A source disclosed that the company owned by Romero, a member of the House of Representatives, has tapped Gorayab as its head coach.

INQUIRER.net sought the veteran coach for confirmation but he has yet to respond as of posting time. But he already shared on his Facebook account that the Capital1 Solar Spikers will hold tryouts on Tuesday and Wednesday at San Sebastian College Gym.

The PVL has yet to announce its newest team but the page has already been created and is calling for volleyball players to try out for the Solar Spikers’ maiden stint.

Gorayeb last coached in the PVL during the Bacarra, Ilocos Norte bubble when he was still handling the PLDT High Speed Hitters, who placed seventh with a 3-6 record.

He parted ways with PLDT after the 2021 season and focused only on the San Sebastian Lady Stags in the NCAA for the past two years.

Gorayeb, a multi-time NCAA champion coach, won a pair of titles with PLDT in Shakey’s V-League in 2015 and steered BaliPure to a 2017 PVL Open Conference championship.

Capital1 will join Strong Group Athletics, the sister team of Farm Fresh owned by Frank Lao, to keep the competition to a 12-team field starting with the first conference in February.
