MANILA, Philippines–The University of the Philippines unveiled another court on its sprawling campus in Diliman to serve its community and intensify a strong foothold in college basketball.

The UP Community Court inside the University Hotel officially opened with the university’s top officials led by UP President Atty. Angelo Jimenez spearheading the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Former UP President Danny Concepcion, Dean Francis Diaz of the UP College of Human Kinetics, UH General Manager Patrick Gregorio and the UH board headed by chairman Vic Paz also graced the activity.

Francis Lopez and Harold Alarcon of the UP Fighting Maroons came in full support along with head coach Goldwyn Monteverde, Director of UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development Bo Perasol, team manager Atty. Agaton Uvero and the UP women’s basketball team led by coach Paul Ramos.

The Maroons captured the UAAP Season 84 men’s basketball title and nearly repeated the act in Season 85 and 86 with runner-up finishes. With an almost intact roster, the Maroons remain a solid title contender this year in Season 87.

Also in attendance were the NLEX Road Warriors led by team manager Larry Fonacier, board member Ronald Dulatre, team ambassador Asi Taulava and Quezon Huskers’ Jeric Teng, Prince Rivero, Will Gozum, coaches Eric Gonzales, Nash Racela, Richie Ticzon and manager Don Kapunan.

Joining them were Dreamcourt owners engineer Pat and Tin Diaz.
