MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel will be missing the services of one of its key cogs for the remainder of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals due to injury.

Terrence Romeo was seen wearing a left ankle cast on Friday at Araneta Coliseum prior to Game 4 of the Finals after “re-spraining” his left ankle in Game 2, making him doubtful to return at any point in the series even if it goes full distance.

“It hurt even more so I couldn’t play my game if I’m not a hundred percent so I might as well [sit]. My doctor gave me 10 days to fully heal because I was really trying to return right away but I forced it and it just got worse so my goal now is to just fully heal,” Romeo told Inquirer Sports in Filipino.

(Mas sumakit lalo kaya di ko rin malalaro yung laro ko na ‘di ako hundred percent so might as well sit. Binigyan ako ng doctor ko ng 10 days para mag-fully heal kasi pinipilit ko talaga makabalik agad tapos yun nga nung pinilit ko nag-worsen lang so parang ang goal ko is mag-heal na talaga siya.)

The shifty guard sat out the PBA semifinals due to that same ankle injury he sustained during practice, ast month.

Romeo caught the injury bug after doing extra training drills for the Beermen before the Ginebra series which saw him hear something “pop” in his foot.

“I did some extra work [after practice] and during one of my drills, I sprained my ankle after making a move. My shoes stuck and I heard something pop. I tried to apply ice to it and rest for two days but I really can’t,” said Romeo in Filipino a few weeks ago.

Romeo will be watching from the bench in street clothes as San Miguel tries close out Magnolia in the PBA Finals, which the Beermen could achieve on Sunday at best depending on Friday night’s results.

“Hopefully, this is done by Sunday… If we win today, then on Sunday, then it’s done but I’m still doubtful [to return] because the same thing might happen; I’ll force it again while it’s not fully healed then it’s back to zero again.

“I don’t want my healing time to be wasted. It’s hard to go back-and-forth so I might as well rest it all the way.”

Ang hirap ng pabalik-balik so might as well isahan na lang.)
