MANILA, Philippines — Jorelle Singh banks on her familiarity with coach Roger Gorayeb as she ushers in a new era of the Capital1 Solar Spikers in her Premier Volleyball League (PVL) comeback.

After missing the past two seasons, Singh found her way back into the pros after Gorayeb, who has been her long-time coach from National University to the volleyball clubs, gave her an opportunity at Capital1.

“Nakita niya po kasi ako na naglalaro ako ulit sa MPVA, kumbaga nakita niya po na pwede pa po ulit akong maglaro so tinawagan niya po ako na mag-tryout po ako sa Capital 1 nga po,” Singh told reporters in the PVL Media Day on Sunday.

Although the last time she played in the pros for PLDT was when Gorayeb was still the coach in the 2021 PVL bubble, Singh said she didn’t have many adjustments because of her familiarity with the longtime volleyball tactician, who steered BaliPure to a title in 2017.

“Sobrang na-miss ko po [mag-compete sa PVL]. Sobrang thankful po ako na nabigyan ulit ako ng chance na makapaglaro ulit sa PVL kasi hindi po lahat nabibigyan ng chance makapaglaro dito, what more pa po na nabigyan ng second chance na maglaro,” Singh said. “

With a second chance to play in the pros, expect Singh to go all out in leading the newest PVL team in the All-Filipino Conference starting on February 20.

“Ang maaasahan niyo sakin is leadership ko po sa team, iga-guide ko po lalo na yung mga bata saka ibibigay ko yung best ko. Kapag pinasok ako, gagawin ko lang kung ano yung best ko,” she said.

Singh admitted that the team has yet to unlock its full potential due to the short preparation but her teammates led by Heather Guino-o, Des Clemente, Ja Lana, Rovee Instrella, Arianne Layug, and Jel Quizon are easy to get along with.

“Masasabi ko nasa 60 percent pa lang po na ready kami pero gagawin naman po namin yung best namin para makapag-perform nang maayos,” Singh said. “Mababait naman po kasi lahat. Kumbaga madali lang pakisamahan lahat kaya walang naging problema.”
