PBA: Baser Amer signs with NLEX, reunites with coach Frankie Lim
MANILA, Philippines—NLEX continued its haul of former San Beda talent after signing unrestricted free agent Baser Amer in time for this month’s PBA Philippine Cup.
The Road Warriors made it official Monday when Amer inked on the dotted line during the team’s training camp at Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.
Article continues after this advertisementAmer had been practicing with NLEX after his contract with Blackwater expired at the conclusion of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign.
By joining NLEX, Amer reunites with coach Frankie Lim, who he played for during his NCAA rookie year with San Beda in 2011. He also joins other former Red Lions in ex-teammates Jake Pascual, Tony Semerad and Dave Marcelo and Robert Bolick.
“I’m happy to rejoin Coach Frankie and other Bedans here at NLEX,” Amer said in Filipino. “I will do my best to help the team win the championship.”
Article continues after this advertisementNLEX will be Amer’s third team of his PBA career. He was drafted by Meralco in 2015 before being dealt to Blackwater in 2021 in exchange for Mac Belo.
Amer’s Blackwater contract initially expired on Dec. 31 but the two parties agreed to extend the deal for two more games in order to complete the campaign.
NLEX miss out on a quarterfinals berth in the Commissioner’s Cup, placing ninth after a 4-7 record.
But the Road Warriors have made some key pickups during the course of the first conference with the addition of Bolick in a three-way trade alongside the NorthPort Batang Pier and San Miguel Beermen.
Rookies Enoch Valdez and Jhan Nermal also made their NLEX debuts during the latter part of the season-opening conference.
