UAAP: Julia Coronel embraces bigger role for La Salle in title defense
MANILA, Philippines — Julia Coronel is up for the challenge of being one of the leaders in La Salle’s title-retention bid in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament starting on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.
After the departure of reigning Best Setter and Season 85 Finals MVP Mars Alba, Coronel was tasked to be the team captain and main playmaker of the team.

“I realized I was given that position because my teammates and my coaches trust me.

“I just remind myself of all their advice to me and the tips from our previous seniors, [so we can continue] the culture that they left. ”
“That’s also something that I want to implement with the team because I want a better culture or legacy.”

Determined to keep the crown in Taft, Coronel believes La Salle is ready this season after a fruitful training camp in Thailand.
Although she admitted that they are still things to improve in leading reigning MVP Angel Canino, Thea Gagate, Shevana Laput, and Alleiah Malaluan and in executing the plays of coach Ramil De Jesus,
“Generally, I need to be more vocal inside the court. As a leader, I need to show my presence because I’m also the setter,” Coronel said. “I also need to toughen up more so my teammates can rely on me.”
