MANILA, Philippines—Alex Eala’s campaign in the W75 Porto came to a halt in the quarterfinals after she succumbed to Hungary’s Anna Bondar, 4-6, 7-6, 1-6 on Friday in Portugal.
This, after the Filipino tennis ace easily breezed through the Rounds of 16 and 32, sweeping Katarina Zavatska of Ukraine and Raluca Georgiana Serban of Romania.
After barely scraping by to force a third set, Bondar shut the door sealed on Eala with a dominant third set that saw the 18-year-old go down, 1-6

Bondar, the 26-year-old player, also showed her veteran prowess over the younger Eala as she registered six aces in the match against the Filipino’s zero.
Eala also faltered in the doubles tournament.
She and partner Ali Collin from Great Britain were eliminated in the quarterfinals after dropping to the tandem of Alicia Barnett and Anna-Len Friedsam, 3-6, 4-6.
Unlike in her singles run in the W75 Porto, she and Collins barely survived the round of 16 with a squeaker over Anca Alexia Todoni and Vasanti Shinde, 7-6, 4-6, 11-9.
